Maintenance? Do not forget to change the filter!
The annual maintenance period is upon us again. In addition to the oil change and air conditioning service, checking the cab filters in tractors and construction machines is an important and, depending on the type of filter, above all an annual service. This is because the filters in the cab perform an enormously important task: they clean the outside air before it enters the cab interior.
Â
In agriculture, where not only pollution plays a major role, but above all certain pollutants, regular replacement of the cab filters is not to be neglected for a safe working environment. In addition, often only standard filters are installed in the cabin ex works, which only filter out suspended particles, i.e. dust or pollen, as well as bad odours from the air. Higher-quality filters made of activated carbon, for example, remove additional pollutants and gases. These can be pesticides and fungicides, for example, which would otherwise enter the cabin unchecked during work in the field.
By the way, did you know that activated carbon filters have to be changed annually? Standard cabin filters only need to be replaced after 500 operating hours. However, activated charcoal filters are used up after only one year, so that their filter performance decreases considerably and dirt particles, pollutants and gases can no longer be filtered out. This can then even become a danger for the driver.

Here are a few tips for the correct handling of cabin filters
- Never clean dirty filters with compressed air! This can damage the filters, which means that the filter performance is no longer guaranteed.
- Do not wash dirty cabin filters! This can also cause damage.
- Never shake or knock them out! Contained pollutants are released and can be inhaled.
- Dirty cabin filters should never be installed! Filter performance is no longer guaranteed.
- Cabin filters should not be used beyond their expiry date! The filter performance decreases significantly due to contamination.
