Power Take-Off Shafts and Parts for Tractors and Agricultural Machines

Power take-off (PTO) shafts are used to connect machines to tractors or other agricultural machines. They are not meant for towing a trailer, but for transferring power. The purpose is to transfer the power from a tractor or other machine. The PTO shaft thus connects the implement to the engine. The connection point of a PTO shaft can be located at the front or rear of a tractor. Some examples of machines powered by a PTO shaft include round balers, forage harvesters, mowers, tillers, sprayers, and wood chippers.

What PTO shaft brands are available?

The most well-known PTO shaft brands are Walterscheid and Bondioli & Pavesi. Rotaro, a Granit brand, is also very popular. Walterscheid is a German brand known for quality and precision. Bondioli & Pavesi is an Italian brand founded in 1950. Both brands have been around for a long time, building a strong reputation in the PTO shaft industry.

Which PTO shaft do you need?

To determine which length PTO shaft you need, check the length when the shaft is retracted. Then measure the distance from cross to cross. Once you know the length, it's important to figure out how many Nm are required for the machine you want to use. The Nm value is crucial to prevent the shaft from breaking if it's too light for the tractor or machine. It's also important not to buy an unnecessarily heavy PTO shaft, so pay attention to this detail. For example, if you need 600 Nm, buy one with 700 Nm, but not a PTO shaft with 1200 Nm.

What is a 1000 RPM PTO shaft?

The 1000 RPM PTO shaft is designed for machines that require a lot of power. The higher RPM results in lower forces in the shaft. To avoid confusion, it's important to know that the RPM does not determine the power of a PTO shaft.

How do you disconnect a PTO shaft?

The protective cover can be removed by first loosening the screw. Then, rotate the cover a quarter turn relative to the shaft. After that, you can unscrew the cover. The PTO shaft can then be disconnected by sliding it out of the machine.

What drives a PTO shaft?

When the tractor is running, the engine's power is transferred to the implement via the PTO shaft. From the tractor, the direction of the PTO shaft's rotation can be determined. On larger tractors, the PTO shaft speed can often be adjusted from the tractor. On smaller tractors, the PTO shaft's rotation speed is usually constant.
