The weld metal is resistant to seawater. Preheat thicker sheets to 150°C. Welding AlMg alloys with the addition of zirconium increases resistance to hot cracking. The welding area must be thoroughly cleaned shortly before welding begins, the weld flanks should be bright metallic.
